Hockey Canada Sex Assault Investigation: Five Players Charged
Alleged Incident Stems from 2018 World Junior Team Event
Players Charged:
- Michael McLeod
- Cal Foote
- Carter Hart
- Dillon Dube
- Alex Formenton
Five members of Canada's 2018 World Junior Team have been charged with sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident that took place in the early morning of June 19, 2018.
The charges stem from two investigations conducted by the London police and the third-party law firm Henein Hutchison, which was hired by Hockey Canada to investigate the allegations.
In May 2022, TSN reported that Hockey Canada, the national governing body of the sport, paid a $3.55 million settlement to a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by eight members of Canada's world junior team in 2018.
The charges announced today are the first to be laid in connection with the alleged incident.
Hockey Canada released a statement saying that it is "cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation and will not comment further at this time."
The players have not yet entered pleas to the charges and are scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2023.
