Michael Wacha Signs With San Francisco Giants
Former Kansas City Royals Pitcher Finds New Home in San Francisco
Michael Wacha, a free-agent pitcher who spent the 2023 season with the Kansas City Royals, has signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco Giants. The deal is worth $3.5 million and includes a player option for 2025.
Wacha's Stats and Career
Wacha, 31, had a solid season with the Royals in 2023, posting a 3.32 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 161.2 innings pitched. He also finished with a 9-7 record and a 1.18 WHIP.
Over his nine-year MLB career, Wacha has a 4.06 ERA and 978 strikeouts in 1,100.2 innings pitched. He has also made three postseason appearances, including a World Series championship with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013.
Giants' Hopes for Wacha
The Giants are hoping that Wacha can provide them with a reliable innings eater in their starting rotation. The team lost several key pitchers to free agency this offseason, including Carlos Rodon and Alex Cobb.
Wacha is expected to slot into the Giants' rotation behind Logan Webb and Alex Wood. He will be counted on to provide length and consistency, as the team looks to rebound from a disappointing 2023 season.
